I helped write a script to do that at the old Where The Girls ARe manor. IIRC, it involved putting script code in the outchat event of a particular room (let's call it the "gateway room"), to intercept the "password", which would then trigger a manor.gotoRoom() call to the id of the hidden room.
The only problem with this scheme is, if someone figures out or guesses the hidden room ID number, they can put the same manor.gotoRoom() call in their borg, allowing them to enter the hidden room even if they don't have the password.
Also, it's important to remember that every room the user visits has a cached copy downloaded to their cache folder - this includes the code of any room scripts as well. Meaning that, in theory, any visitor to the gateway room would have both the password and the ID of the hidden room available to them, if they were to take the time and effort to look thru their cache files.
In other words, this is definitely a security-by-obscurity kind of solution, and as such shouldn't be relied upon if absolute security is needed. Though perhaps it may be possible to apply settings to the hidden room to make this approach more secure, I'm not sure.
Hope this helps! |
