The question is simple enough:
When making a script, what weight should be given to blank lines in scripts, concerning how much it fills memory wise, response time etc. on server?
I have some scripts I got from others where I deleted up to 100 blank lines, without compromising clarity... it is just over redundant spacing, so... does it matter much if we say you can delete 100 blank lines in a script?... or alternatively when will it matter... if very very big?
e.g. a music script that you can save 100 lines in, and the script has to be installed in each room...so it builds up to say... 50 rooms... that is a total of 5000 blank lines gotten rid of.
Any educated takes on this? Just wondering... ( I guess I could make tests on it...but well call me lazy) _________________ Cheiron

Blank lines really don't make much difference as each is only 1 byte and are removed at compile time anyway (yes, your scripts go through a runtime compiler the output of which is what is actually used). In the case of the example above 5000 blank lines over 50 rooms is 4.9k total, or 0.098k per room. If the room were compressed it would be even less.
The only place blank lines might possibly make any difference is in how long it takes the room description to download, but you would have to have an awful lot of them to make any noticeable difference. |
