Had a little incident this morning that had me really ticked off. I had to make a quick run to the court house for work, so in order to make it easier on myself rather than taking my car, I took a taxi.
Now here in Quebec, we normally tip between 10-15% for a service. I get to the court house and the taxi meter says 11.25, now at 15% that would bring the tip to 1.68 for a total of $12.93. I round that off and calculate it at $13.00. I gave the cab driver $15.00 and I await my change. He says your done lady. I looked at him and said. my change please, he responds with a snotty attitude well lady the change is my tip.
Oh boy I did not take that too well, I said to him….excuse me sir may I remind you that tipping is NOT mandatory here in Quebec, its considered a common courtesy, now unless you can prove me wrong by indicating to me which article of the Civil Code of the Province of Quebec clearly stipulates that by law I HAVE to tip you, I recommend you give me back my change or I will report you to the Montreal Taxi Association.
He ended up giving me back my change, still with his snotty attitude. The guy basically was trying to rip me off and he has the nerve to give me attitude!!!
The icing on the cake to this story….I get back to the office and im telling a colleague, he has the nerve to say why did you make a story over $2.00. Am I wrong here????
I don’t think so, if he did that to me, how many others has he done that to and got away with it.

Many people these days sacrifice principals to expediency. Which is exactly what scuzballs like your cab driver pray upon. While $2 probably won't get any official notice, I would think others might like to know what cab company it was to avoid in future (and maybe send note to said company that they are and why).
Oh and no, your not wrong. Myself, attitude like that he can give me the full $3.75 change and forget any tip at all. |

When I got home from a vacation in Greece once... landed in airport with all my stuff late at night dead tired, I decided to take a cab home...
Cabs are lined up outside airport, I go into one and get my backpack etc in ... and I told driver where to go.
He got pissed off because I only live 3 miles from airport, so he was giving this long speech allllll the way home to me about how hard it was to get in front of taxi line etc... and now it was all wasted and he had to get back.
I nearly punched him... _________________ Cheiron

You were certainly not wrong Flexie. The cab driver was a total jerk for trying to rip you off, hopefully you reported him to the taxi Association.

| The cab driver was wrong for assuming a tip would be given. But blown wayyyy out of proportion for the issue. Like killing a fly with a shotgun |
