You are prolly wondering what now?
WELL... lately some students at a danish police academy decided they wanted the danish flag in their classroom, no racist or supernationalist issues about it, just ... they wanted the danish flag there as a reminder of their public duty to their nation and to be truthful to Denmark as police.
First one vanished, they put up another one... it vanished, and they got a yelling from the police academy management that it was not considered politically correct and that it could send.... "the wrong signals".....
WHAT????
I am not a right-wing numbnut and into flag stuff, or having wet dreams about saying: "Sieg Heil", but dammit... I reserve the right to be proud to be a dane... and if they want the danish flag there, so DO IT !
What is this crummy business with: "ohhh we don't want to hurt anybody's feelings"...? As if the whole of Europe and USA have to excuse us being here at all... uhh??? I'm sick and tired of that "political correctness" idiom crawling in everywhere in public life.
Let's turn the tables a bit and look at the arabs and the slave trade?... or how about chairman Mao in China?... 40 million dead??? uhuh??? And how is it going with political, civil and human rights and gender equality in China or Arab countries???.... uh duhhhh... YES... not good, but we in west at least have tried and are trying.
Denmark has been a unified kingdom for over 1000 years, and we can be... as a small nation, pretty damn proud of ourselves.
No bloody foreigner is gonna dictate us what we can and can not do....
It's as if everything has to be political correct, and somehow it's some arabs that dictate suddently what is ok and what is not???... in the kingdom of Denmark??? That doctrin has sneaked it's way into western board rooms and management, because: "oh we don't want to upset anybody, better play it safe" Hell no... stand firm on principles of freedom and democracy !!!.... I'm sick of current politics, put your foot down, say no, it cost us incredible effort to get to were we are, and bloody hell we are not gonna waste it.
I reserve the right to be proud of my nation, and I suggest we all do that, whereever you come from, but of course respect other people, respect your neighbor, respect other nations and acknowledge differences and find common ground to live in peaceful coexistence... but there are limits to it... as Frank Zappa said: "There's a big difference between kneeling down and bending over"... and I'm tired of this show.
... and I like our flag actually, it has tons of history in it of blood sweat and tears over 1000 years, it has been up and down and through many many wars.., and NO WAY THAT IS GONNA BE TRAMPLED ON... BASTA !!!!
phew, sigh... sorry... had to get it out _________________ Cheiron

Well Chieron point taken........
The use of a flag is to symbolize a nation or a country. Some national flags have been particularly inspirational to other nations, countries, or subnational entities in the design of their own flags.
Bottom line I guess would be to say is .......doesn’t matter where we come from, if we want to hang our flag and be proud of it no one should tell us otherwise. _________________ - Flexie -

It certainly would IG, and that is what we all aim at I think.
But... action creates reaction, actions have consequences and some people don't seem to realize that and have no respect.
... and to quote Zappa again:
"There's a difference between kneeling down and bending over".

| Well we could go on like a Catch-22 about actions causing reactions causing reactions again ... like a broken record. But I agree Cheiron respect has to be shown by both the ones acting and the ones reacting. Which is what IG was talking about..no respect was shown and apparently still hasn't been shown |

Hm, some might find this interesting....
The danish flag (Dannebrog) is actually the oldest flag still in use by an independent nation, it was inspiration for the other Scandinavian flags: Sweden, Norway and Finland, and even the Scottish. Legend has it that it dropped from heaven during a battle in Estonia in 1219. Hehe... yeah sure...
Details here, which is quite an interesting article if you are interested in history:

And... in this connection the interesting links to the Crusaders might show in investigating the english flag (Saint George's Cross):
