In these ages and times where everbody seek for enlightenment, wether it be fantastic heroes in financial sector (erhm), political leaders, religious maharaji gurus, reborn christans, islamic brotherhood, zen, buddhism.. or they go to tests at Scientology, for me there is one anti-guru that stands out and that can vaccinate us all from all this stuff and gives us inspiration and a light in a life... it's my personal guru, that taught me everything I know and is a great man... : Donald Duck !

I think he is the best example on what can bring us hope and inspiration, because what characterizes Donald since I first read him in the late 60's is.... he is always ready EACH WEEK !!!

Donald Duck always gets beaten up and clubbed by the Beagle Boys, his nephews laugh at him, Gladstone Gander always wins and typically gets the second hand sofa with a treasure map in it, Scrooge McDuck always bosses him around and sends him packing to administer a railroad station out in desert that haven't had succes in last 30 years, Daisy Duck always laughs at him or scorns him and are always looking for a better duck.

... and STILL, Donald is EVERY WEEK ready again, walking down the street whistling a cheerful tune, thinking: this time nothing will go wrong, Scrooge McDuck will put him as sole heir, Daisy Duck will go: oooooh Donald... and his nephews will look at him with big admiring eyes and tell their friends about their fantastic uncle...

... and it never works that way, and we all know that, cause we have known Donald for so long. What happens... he gets a job at a baker, he accidentily mix concrete into the doe, he gets a job as night watch in a zoo, and all the animals escape... etc...and we know it, he ends in the foreign legion AGAIN, and the kids get a postcard from some obscure place

AND STILL HE IS THERE NEXT WEEK !!!!

and therefore I think Donald Duck is a grandiose image of modern man, that has to start over again and again with same unquavering optimizm every morning, even though yesterday was filled with violence, humiliation and nastiness.

He is a hero.
