In the UK about a third of the food produced wind up in the bin. Customers are choosy about e.g. apples with a little flaw, a potato with a black spot etc. I bet it is same world around: the fact is... one THIRD is wasted of perfectly fine food, which can be avoided if you just take a bit of care and/or rationalize on your products. But especially restaurants and supermarkets throw out tons of food, not only bad for their own economy of their business, but generally bad and stupid for society as a whole. And then around the world millions of people even don't have enough to survive. It is a shame.
You would think it selfevident that if you go through the labour of rearing and killing an animal, at least have the decency to eat the bloody thing !

"Freeganism" is a movement that hate that waste and instead take initiative to utilize food to the max, they also have other strategies as avoiding big corporations that fill us with a lot of artificial stuff, companies that treat animals badly etc... in all, they just try to maximize and respect food.
One Freegan strategy is to eat out of bins... a restaurant critic, Giles Coren, tried that, diving into bins outside restaurants.... perfect food, nothing wrong with it.

For more info about freegans, and you should really read this:

also... this might inspire you... a clip from The f Word by Gordon Ramsay...it is starting about half way through it with the food critic I mentioned:

So... I am not suggesting you dive into nearest bin for your next meal... but think about your food, respect it and respect where it comes from, utilize it well, make fresh food from good raw produce (it IS cheaper than ready made s**t) ... and yet.... a tip if you are really broke: search out the bins of your local restaurants...you might find a lot of great food there.... for free Smile

Bon Appetit !
